what's the point of that site
-
pabs
-
dumbgoy__
yeah i read it
-
dumbgoy__
i didn't see anything of concrete use, i'm not trying to be a dick but is this place just soliciting donations for doing nothing that they can actually prove elsewhere?
-
pokechu22
Pretty sure some of the stuff they've worked on has ended up elsewhere
-
pabs
seems they are digitising stuff and collecting physical things
gamehistory.org/what-were-doing
-
dumbgoy__
pokechu22: i'd be interested to see it
-
dumbgoy__
because that site is just intangible lol
-
pokechu22
Hmm, I thought they contributed to
hiddenpalace.org but I don't get anything by a direct search
-
dumbgoy__
see there ya go - something cool and useful
-
dumbgoy__
thanks
-
pokechu22
-
pokechu22
... oh, that search doesn't work -- thought that did in the past (I vaguely remember implementing that, but it might not have been that specifically), but it probably broke

OrIdow6
Progress on stuff on DW through the end of March/"early April", as far as I can tell:
-
OrIdow6
Kaotic - no progress
-
OrIdow6
forums.halowaypoint - no progress
-
OrIdow6
BBoard - a few superficial AB jobs, otherwise no progress
-
OrIdow6
Codecoop - appears there was a thourough AB job for the web interface, not sure about direct Git format
-
OrIdow6
Line Live (live.line.me) - no progress
-
OrIdow6
Dark Sky - website archived late last year by pabs if I'm not mistaken. Could use a light dusting for any final updates but other than that I think it's good to go?
-
OrIdow6
GYAO - a few superifical AB jobs, otherwise no progress
-
OrIdow6
QUIC/Code Aurora/codeaurora - no progress
-
OrIdow6
Zippyshare - arkiver working on it, channel recently created
-
OrIdow6
Nintendo EShop - really outside of our area of interest + covered by many other people (as discussed), but if someone does want to look at it #nintendone
-
OrIdow6
Shutterfly share sites - currently looking at it myself to determine how many are public/discoverable
-
JAA
I'm covering codecoop/QUIC, more about that soon.
-
pokechu22
There's also Enjin, though that's end of April (no progress that I know of either)
-
OrIdow6
Yeah, but I'm too lazy to make the list go that far
-
pokechu22
How does this compare with previous months?
-
pokechu22
It feels like a lot of stuff is going down all near the same time
-
OrIdow6
Yeah, it's as if EOY 2022 wasn't actually a huge letdown, it was just delayed by 3 months
-
» JTL would guess it relates to market conditions and financial planning to some extent
-
JTL
For some of those anyway.
-
JAA
Ends of quarters are always busy, but yeah, EOY 2022 was unusually quiet.
-
voltagex|m
For codeaurora, might be worth putting a call out on XDA?
-
arkiver
OrIdow6: working on line live as well
-
arkiver
that being said, let's make a line live channel
-
arkiver
OrIdow6: doesn't BBoard have almost 90k forums, possibly making it more than a few AB jobs?
-
Sanqui
arkiver: I've started to scrape for bboard URLs... there are 593152 in the IA CDX
-
Sanqui
iphpbb3.com seems to also belong to bboard, btw
-
arkiver
if you have a list, can you please post on transfer.archivete.am and post here?
-
Sanqui
-
Sanqui
646560 unique urls, with two (three) caveats:
-
Sanqui
1. the boards should still be crawled recursively to discover all threads
-
Sanqui
-
Sanqui
in an ideal case this would be accounted for and italjet.bboard.de would be added
-
Sanqui
3. I haven't yet derived any AB warcs, including the one of bboard.de itself
-
Sanqui
I'll also note that this is less than 10k domains total
-
Sanqui
started AB jobs for those just to get the ball rolling
-
Sanqui
The AB crawls will be very incomplete because some of the domains feed a "Connection closed" to AB
-
arkiver
Sanqui: on their site they note almost 90k forums
-
arkiver
many of those may be impopular
-
arkiver
anyone have an idea for a bboard channel?
-
Sanqui
maybe we can just use #msgbored
-
Sanqui
We are currently on the front page of Hacker News with "Archive Team is archiving DPReview"
-
Sanqui
-
sec^nd
Do we have a guide on how to create warcs and upload them to archive.org ?
-
sec^nd
Also why was the dpreview.com archive aborted?
-
Jake
Ratelimiting. We're doing a whole project. #dprived

arkiver: Good to hear on line live, though don't overstretch yourself
-
OrIdow6
arkiver: the list is of the progress so far, not what is needed
-
OrIdow6
"a few superficial AB jobs" because (if I remember right) all they got was the homepage/home-site(?) and one or two forums that I guess someone liked in particular
-
OrIdow6
Sanqui: Fantastic, I'm sure we'll get a bunch of down-to-earth people with respect for experience and who have the public good as their first priority

ToastyMagma
Hello all.
-
pokechu22
Hi
-
ToastyMagma
So, funny story, I saw that "Ponibooru" (a Brony imagaboard from 2012) is listed on the Deathwatch page. I happen to have a full copy of all the images and probably all the image comments, and I've been sitting on it since 2012, trying to figure out what to do with it.
-
ToastyMagma
I've never used IA before and don't want to just start throwing things up there without a little bit of knowledge about best practices.
-
ToastyMagma
Plus, the website had A LOT of porn. Whats the call on X-rated media on IA?
-
pokechu22
How large is it all?
-
pokechu22
I think there's a way to mark stuff uploaded to IA as something that shouldn't have a preview enabled, though I haven't done it.
wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/Porn is also worth looking at (but if it's genuinely unique content that would be lost otherwise, that is definitely something worth preserving)

TheTechRobo
Suggestion for linelive: #linedead ?
-
ToastyMagma
Thank you for pointing out the IA search function; I should have done that first. (D'oh.)
-
ToastyMagma
Images are four TAR files, 2.8 GB, 4.0 GB, 4.3 GB, and 89.1 GB.
-
ToastyMagma
Looks like somebody already did a text scrape so the image comments aren't needed.
-
OrIdow6
Don't take
wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/Porn seriously IMO, I have been meaning to start a discussion about how it reads like a policy even though it was just one person's political opinion
-
ToastyMagma
Roger.
-
pokechu22
It looks like the first two results (Ponibooru-Select-Explicit and Ponibooru-Select-Questionable) are download-restricted, dunno the history behind that. The other stuff I haven't looked at in detail because some of the titles are very worrying
-
ToastyMagma
Yeah, I don't see anything that looks like fully uploads of the database, just the "select" archives.
-
ToastyMagma
I'll start uploading the archives I have in a bit, looks like I won't be duplicating anything.
-
ToastyMagma
Time to experimentally determin if my gigabit connection is symmetrical. :P
-
pokechu22
I'd recommend uploading everything including text comments if you've got them - no harm in that (unless the 89.1 GB is entirely text comments and images are the smaller files, but that seems implausible :P)
-
pokechu22
It seems weird that there isn't a Ponibooru-Select-Safe item already - my understanding is that usually there's explicit, questionable, and safe categories
-
ToastyMagma
Correct, the files I have are labeled Unrated, Questionable, Explicit, and Safe (in same order as sizes noted above).
