arkiver: I think all you need to do is include it in pipeline.py this location /opt/wget-at-1.20.3/bin/wget-at according to chfoo
-
arkiver
kiska: alright, will look into that tomorrow
-
kiska
Yeah find_executable seems to be the option that needs to be changed

One thing that's been mentioned a couple of times here and there, but I'd like to repeat it anyway: Flash is finally getting killed at the end of the year.
-
s-crypt
I have extremely mixed emotions on that one.
-
s-crypt
1) flash, the proprietary and security nightmare is gone
-
s-crypt
2)lost content
-
JAA
Pretty much.
-
s-crypt
I really respect the foresight of bluemaxima for flashpoint
bluemaxima.org/flashpoint
-
benjins
So flash is going EOL, but is there anything that's going to change much then? People will still have it installed, a few websites will still have flash content up
-
lennier1
-
lennier1
"Adobe will be removing Flash Player download pages from its site and Flash-based content will be blocked from running in Adobe Flash Player after the EOL Date.
-
lennier1
Adobe always recommends using the latest, supported and up-to-date software. Customers should not use Flash Player after the EOL Date since it will not be supported by Adobe. "
-
JAA
The player is getting murdered, not just reaching EOL, and browsers are dropping support.
-
JAA
So for all practical purposes, all Flash content will be unusable from Jan 2021.
-
s-crypt
except its going the windows route and offering paid updates for a short while
-
lennier1
For sure some people will run it unofficially, but yeah, much less reason to keep any content on-line.
-
JAA
But yeah, I bet you can still play it back with some tricks like faking the clock, possibly going offline, etc.
-
benjins
Does that mean adobe has a killswitch in the last N versions of flash?
-
JAA
s-crypt: Source?
-
JAA
benjins: Haven't verified it, but that's what I heard, yes.
-
s-crypt
benjins: its proprietary, so who knows
-
s-crypt
JAA: im looking, I remember reading an article a while back
-
JAA
-
s-crypt
Adobe will continue issuing regular Flash Player security patches, maintain OS and browser compatibility, and add features and capabilities as needed through the end of 2020.
-
s-crypt
Yep, just got it too
-
lennier1
I know Kongregate stopped accepting new Flash games, but is keeping the old ones on-line as far as I know. But at least worth keeping an eye on sites like that. Any idea how complete the Flashpoint game collection is?
-
lennier1
Of course there's also animations and such.
-
OrIdow6^2
Killswitch or date-based
-
OrIdow6^2
So the typical Samsung item size is a lot lower than I'd expect
-
OrIdow6^2
For huge HD videos
-
OrIdow6^2
But maybe I had a bias in choosing test videos - popular -> higher resolution and longer length
-
lennier1
Is it getting all resolutions?

It looked like it was, never bothered to test for that, though

>59k and >6k respectively according to their front page
-
thuban
flash animation was a sufficiently outsider art that we may have no way of knowing how much of it there actually was, but for comparison, newgrounds alone had >85k games and >150k animations circa mid-2017
-
s-crypt
-
thuban
(newgrounds developed a flash -> mp4 converter for animations called swivel, dunno whether they're doing mass conversions or just making it available to uploaders)
-
flashfire42
as a member of flashpoint I will say we do need more curators and people saving content but we do have a chunk of history there
-
flashfire42
I think Bluemaxima actually hangs out here sometimes
-
lennier1
For perspective, Kongregate alone has 128K games, but I don't know how many of those are flash.
theverge.com/2020/7/2/21311318/kong…missions-flash-discontinued-layoffs
-
flashfire42
We have a fair amount of content in flashfreeze of which the plan is to curate from there when stuff dissapears off the web
-
lennier1
Cool. I'd definitely worry about sites that are just a random collection of (unauthorized?) games, i.e.
crazygames.com
-
lennier1
I didn't see that one on the list. Came across it when I was looking for an old Jasper Byrne game after I played Lone Survivor.
-
thuban
i am astonished to find all the homestar runner content missing from the animation list

Actually, found that flash site on another tab.

arkiver: What's the exact datatype of a zst dict_id? Unsigned 32-bit int? The official compression format doc doesn't specify the signedness as far as I can see.

Any git experts in the house right now? I'm having some interesting fun trying to make the urlteam scripts into an ansible playbook and I think I have found what might be a weird bug with how we handle git there.
-
phuzion
Basically what I have right now is the ansible playbook checks out terroroftinytown-client-grab, and deploys it to my server, and then systemd launches the pipeline. Once the pipeline has run, the terroroftinytown submodule is initialized, and then any time after that, the playbook fails beause there are modifications in the repository.
-
phuzion
It looks like we're initializing the submodule for terroroftinytown as detached head which appears to be why it's happening, I'm wondering if there's something we can do in the .gitmodules file to make it not do that?
-
phuzion
I'm far from a git expert, this is probably something that takes a 30 second fix, but I'm just not smart enough to know what it is haha

Fusl: what about just storing all the data in mongodb? Its webscale and uses sharding

go rot in hell

and fix the backfeed script from there

make it webscale

Excuse me Fusl, but we probably should respect peoples ideas and ways to help archiveteam. Adding a webscale software such as mongodb could be great
