pabshas there been any work on archiving the gemini:// or gopher:// universes? lots of gemini users aren't publishing on http/https
-
pabs(gemini is similar to gopher+markdown, but with TLS)
-
OrIdow6Thanks TheTechRobo
-
OrIdow6And indirect thanks to the person at the other end as well
-
OrIdow6pabs: People periodically ask about and archive gopher, don't know about this gemini

-
OrIdow6Glad I didn't have to follow through that "ask about" and dig throuhg my logs
-
pabsthanks, so it looks like IA doesn't support gopher:// URLs in web.archive.org and doesn't have gopher://gopher.archive.org :) - they just archive the files on the main site
-
OrIdow6For obscure protocols you shouldn't look in the Waybacm Machine
-
OrIdow6THough I think it's possible in the future
-
OrIdow6Presumably would need a warc standard or similar
-
OrIdow6I can't read
-
OrIdow6YOu said that
-
JAAYeah, a WARC record standard would have to be established first. And that's a *SLOW* process. There still isn't one for FTP, even though at least two tools have supported writing such WARCs for years.
-
JAAdaxxy: ETA for first pass is ~8 hours.
-
OrIdow6On the topic of gopher etc I have thought it might be nice to write something that converts wiki pages to the appropriate format and serves them on those protocols
-
OrIdow6Considerable overlap with the pool of people ArchiveTeam already draws from
