Curious what that will look like and how open it will really be.
-
Jake
I'm also curious how that would work with WARCs?
-
pabs
with the savepagenow stuff, is there a way to say "archive this, but don't bother if it hasn't been archived recently"?
-
Jake
I don't think that's an option in SPN directly.
-
pabs
er, s/hasn't/has/ but hopefully that was obviously a typo :)
-
JAA
It'll stop you for very recent captures (I think it's half an hour now?), but otherwise, no. Could easily be implemented with a little userscript though I guess.
-
pabs
I was thinking of the email interface

pabs
and a slightly longer period (24h)
-
Ryz
If you're doing the same grab of the link within the same day, I think there's actually a limit how much one link is saved per day~
-
pabs
not doing grabs right now, was thinking about feeding my daily browsing history into SPN
-
Video
is there a place where one can share a script that scrapes forums running flarum? its api is like a gold mine for archiving
-
Ryz
Hello Video, I'm not sure if this or #archiveteam-bs is the right place, but please stick around for a while, since there isn't a lot of activity here compared the other times of the day
-
Video
no worries, it's like 11 PM atm so i'm not terribly surprised

So I recently bought a collection of old MiniDiscs on ebay that appear to have recordings of late 90s radio broadcasts (techno/house DJ sets, about 2 hours each) on them. Is that something that IA would want?
-
thuban
absolutely!
-
ThreeHM
Mostly concerned about copyright, but I can't actually identify the songs using Shazam (lots of sampling/remixing, Shazam just recognizes the original from where the samples were taken)
-
ThreeHM
If that's fine, I'll go ahead and upload them. For now, digitizing will probably take a good amount of time since my MD machine only has an analog output.
-
thuban
ia will dark (hide) items if they receive a valid dmca complaint, but as the uploader you shouldn't need to worry about it. (ia terminates the accounts of "repeat infringers", but this is clearly good-faith.)
-
thuban
have fun digitizing :)
-
thuban
(if you find that for some reason you're not able to digitize to your satisfaction, you can also physically ship items to the internet archive.)
-
ThreeHM
An analog audio recording is certainly doable for me, the biggest annoyance is having to transfer what looks like about 20h of recordings in real time :D
-
ThreeHM
The nice thing about MD is that you don't really need high end machines to make a good recording since the format is digital to begin with
-
pabs
are they not extractable digitally?
-
ThreeHM
They are, but my player doesn't support that unfortunately
-
Wayward
time to buy a new MD :)
-
ThreeHM
Maybe :D Then again, the software apparently doesn't play well with modern versions of windows and there's DRM to deal with.
-
programmerq
I have an old minidisc player. I haven't gotten it out in years. I seem to recall being able to pull recordings off of it.
-
programmerq
ThreeHM: I'll let you know if I can get it up and running.
-
programmerq
I actually knew right where it was
-
programmerq
lol, it's been so long that it's like unboxing it for the first time again. not only does it have an internal rechargeable battery, but it has an external AA battery holder that attaches to the side. neat.
-
programmerq
ThreeHM:
github.com/thp/linux-minidisc/releases - I was able to download the windows 10 x64 bit binary from this github project and it was able to see the player and I'm downloading tracks that were on the random disk that were in there. This looks like a disc that was likely authored on a computer instead of recorded directly on the device. I probably have a blank
-
programmerq
disk and can do some other experiements. I have the MZ-RH10 which is a "Hi-MD" player as opposed to the older "Net-MD" players. It was a higher end model at the time I bought it ($350 in around 2005 if I recall correctly). If you can share any technical info about the tracks on the discs and how they were authored, I might be able to pull them off with mine. That software on
-
programmerq
github might do the trick too.
-
ThreeHM
programmerq: Yeah, I've only got the more budget-focused MDS-JE330. Not sure about how these discs were recorded, but they definitely aren't HiMD or MDLP since my machine wouldn't be able to play those. There are track markers on all the discs, even though they play as one continuous gap-less recording. Not sure what devices would be able to do that.
-
programmerq
I remember having the ability to add track markers to recordings I did. I even did some light editing of a song that I recorded directly on the device.
-
ThreeHM
Disclaimer: This is actually my first time playing with MiniDisc, which is why I've gone for a somewhat cheaper player. I wasn't really expecting to end up with recorded discs that are worth archiving when I ordered these :D
-
ThreeHM
Anyway, the analog transfer is working fine for now. Coming from the radio, these recordings weren't really perfect to begin with
-
programmerq
that's true.
-
» Doranwen is reminded she really needs to get that box of stuff shipped off to the IA…
-
Doranwen
it's got a 5¼" floppy as well as 3½" floppies, both for non-game obscure programs, and a bunch of other interesting old booklets/books, lol

I'm looking for the DOS game 3D Pacman. I had a copy somewhere and can't find it in the archives.
-

does anyone know of a USB to FDD, or SATA to FDD or PCI-3 to FDD adapter?
